MY SINGAPORE FLING! A weekend to remember for a long time.

First of all, before i start, i wanna give a shout out and a big Assalammualaikum to all my Singaporean Fans and KODOKS that i managed to meet with during my break in Singapore the past couple of days. You guys were awesome and it was ultra-terrific to finally be able to meet you guys.

How can one describe the feeling of sheer joy, the feeling of pride and the awesome experience of being there in singapore to support my friends and the group of outstanding Malaysian artistes who performed their hearts out at the Singapore Esplanade for the past four performances of Puteri Gunung Ledang the musical. DAHSYAT DAN MEMBANGGAKAN!!!!

Even the Guy who runs the ESPLANADE (a huge theatrical space much like Istana Budaya, which has hosted many international theatre productions ) was so terkejut (in awe) at how the singaporean audience responded at the show : STANDING OVATION for all shows!!! gempak siut. And i have been made the official groupie of PGL, pasal muka i memang tak tau malu.... as my wife cakap. One of the top Malaysian celebrities a groupie... PERSETANKAN! aku kata, aku bukan artis kontrol macho dan tak berperasaan... KERJA YANG BAGUS kita sokong habis-habisan.

I manage to wrangle some tickets to watch the matinee in singapore so i took all my visionworks staff there and we had a ball. Sampai terujalah sehingga tak nak balik the following day. We managed to wrangle our way into the VIP box for the last nite’s performance and although the viewing was limited we were barely three metres away from the stage and we found another level of appreciation for the performance. Me and my lovely wife were in PGL heaven and loving every minute of it.

What i was really surprised with was how the Malaysian artistes were treated there. We would assume because we think the singaporeans are all kiasu that diorang pun sure kontrol-kontrol gak but to the contrary... they were amazingly warm and supportive. I think my beautiful wife was also kinda surprise at how well the stars were treated there, kat Malaysia ni, unless u are MAWI or DATUK SITI... Nak suruh orang tepuk tangan pun... berlepek-lepek bunyinya.

The main cast were Amazing as usual.TIARA AND STEVE were reprising their roles, which i can never see anybody else doing because they have stamped their mark and sheer class into their characters. Stand out performances came from the ADIPATI (AC MIZAL), MAHMUD of MELAKA (ADLIN AMAN RAMLIE) and to my surprise an exquisite performance from BAYAN (IDA MARIANA). Tapi yang amat outstanding adalah the CHORUS LINE (the dancers and extras to some of you). Komitmen diorang sampai berlenang airmata gua tengok. They really gave it their all, HEART, BODY SOUL and whatever else they can give.

Pemuzik-pemuzik tengah 'break it DOWN' for the curtain call.
Standing ovation di esplanade memang gila babs..
Pamanku Patin taking a well deserved bow.
The picture says everything.Nasib baik last show, kalau tak memang tak pegi keje la aku esok.
Aqasha and Adlin after the show, memang dahsyat mamat tu. Hats off to you brada.
Mac Chew the new musical director is all smiles and all hugs.
Stephen Rahman aka Hang Tuah pun kuat peluk orang jugak rupanya. Tapi gua pasti mereka 'HANYA KAWAN'. heehee.
Mohd. Afif anak sultan Mahmud juga berlakon filem SUMOlah... Watch out for this kid he is going to be a major star in our country.
The creation team of PGL the Musical. Thank you guys for the gift. I would watch this journey over and over again.
Bersama the chorus line. What hard working talents they are.
You guys deserve another photo.
The wonderful, talented , sexy and married Ida Mariana who plays Bayan, what a performance by her.
I'm too sexy for my shirt.
the cast thanking the musicians in the pit while going to their meet the fans session.
Jenny Chin, Boudeng, Mac Chew and Me. The Roslan Aziz Production team reunion or as MAC calls it, 'The masih boleh cari makan club'
My bro AJI the latest addition to the musicians line-up. My songwriting partner for ERTI HIDUP.
The most talented ensmble of Malaysian musicians ever to be put together for PGL THE MUSICAL.
The stage backdrops hanging on the trusses
Mukasurat terakhir skrip PGL the Musical yang sedang terbuka onstage
stage manager punya console to make sure everything is going well. macam sekuriti guard punya control room aje.
PAT GUI, PGLM punya stage manager. the person running the show on stage.
View from stage left at the Esplanade theatre.
And so the journey ends in Singapore.

I am so proud of them and so proud that we as Malaysians have a world class production in our hands. As I have said before and I will say it again, this production deserves its own home in Malaysia where people from everywhere can keep coming and be filled with all the energy , zest and talent that our country can offer.

As for my wife and me, well let’s just say we had a great time and loved our time together. She is my love, a great companion and I am so blessed to be able to experience life with her. Oh and she is a major PGL groupie too.

POWER TO THE ARTS

First of all.... Kudos for the wonderful staging in Singapore. The PGLM team did extremely well and it proves that "Kesenian Melayu" terlalu indah untuk di sorok-sorok kan. Bring it all out guys... Bring PGLM to international levels. We have non-malays @ the plays in Spore and they enjoyed every bit of it just as I did with my friends. We're glad that PLGM came to our shores and we're hoping that they'll make a come back. As a Singaporean, I'm proud how collaborations between Dick Lee and the rest of the M'sian PGLM team has produced such haunting musical piece that it overshadowed the soundtrack of the "Movie" itself. Well done guys... You have found yourselves another home @ esplanade.

Afdlin, do extend my heartfelt congratulations to the PGLM team. Let them know they'll always be remembered here. And please make a return. We'll be waiting.

Great performance guys... My heart is still racing everytime I recapped the performances in my head. Gusti Adipati... you stole the show... Felt in love with the character... AC Mizal... you're truly a talented performer.

By the way, I'm looking to get my hands on the PGLM soundtrack. Any ideas? I'm a Singaporean and didn't know that they were selling the soundtrack during the play dates. Or maybe it was sold out then. Please let me know if you guys can help me on this. Thanks...

hey Alf this is Tiara... thank you babe for the kind words. We couldn't have come this far without the kind of home support that has always been there from season 1 and 2 in KL. And yes bro, you is officially GrOOvie GrOOpie of the year without a doubt. We should have a proper ceremony to honor the PGLM groupies sometime, ha ha!

Thanks too to all you guys who came out to show yr support. The response from Singapore audiences was overwhelming, to say the least. And I've enjoyed reading all your blogs, its part of our post mortem of the singapore season! We'd be only too happy to come back, just call our name.

Beta, Gusti Puteri Raden Ajeng Retno Dumilah... hee hee. x

If it's really true that they'll be making a return... that'll be simply wonderful.... Can't wait man... Hope, they'll be here for longer play dates... and please... bring more of the musical soundtrack....

And please, don't change the castings... these people are so great that I couldn't imagine anyone else doing their roles... Especially for Gusti Puteri, Hang Tuah, and even more for Gusti Adipati... Similarly for Mahmud Melaka... No one can deliver that role the way adlin did...

Morning, evening or afternoon Afdlin...i'm Liang Seng here. Erm...I have no idea how to put this, but no it's not to say I Love You... :P Erm, I'm from Kolej Pendeta Za'ba, Universiti Putra Malaysia actually, and we're planning to hold a charity event in UPM. This event is still in the planning but I would like to know if you could possibly grace the event? It is sort of a show, erm..something like a concert but not totally singing. Right now, I do not have any idea when is it...but for sure it'll be between Januray to March 2007. Well, hit me back at liangseng85@yahoo.com. I'll try to provide more details to you ASAP. Meanwhile, enjoy whatever you do, have a nice day and good luck to SUMOLAH! Oh btw, the international poster is somewhat nice but the local poster is creative. Not sure what the locals will think of the As* there...but it might generate good publicity for the movie. :P Hope to hear from you...Thanks and good day!

CO : With the movie, I understand you plan to market it in Thailand, Japan and Singapore. What kind of response do you expect?

Afdlin : Oh, I don't know. If we even open in one cinema abroad, it would be great for me. I don't want it to be a festival (themed) movie. I just want it to be a distributed movie, a movie that's seen by the masses in another country – a movie that can be appreciated by other people.

brader,

Very true what you said. PGL the musical deserves a permanent staging in Malaysia so that people from everywhere can come to experience it. Why not build a theatre just for PGL in Melaka instead of some eyesore of a tower...

Aliza said...

i tend to agree that PGL shud be staged (well, not permanently -- the actors need breaks too right?) on regular basis to enable more people to watch it.

i missed it BOTH times it ran in KL, and my office is just a stone's throw away from IB (Istana Budaya) :-(

think it'll run for another season here in KL? ;-p

i salute 2x for those penerbit who tried their best to lift our movie industry to another level by the name of Cinta and a few which i cant remember to name. truth is, i rarely go to the cinema to watch malay films, its not that i dont want to support the movie industry, but i do pay RM10 for a seat in the cinema and i dont want to go out and kutuk mengumpat session bermula. but cinta, differs it all. a five(thou too much) episode of love being told in one show. thats five movie in RM10, earns my KUDOS to the ppl who involve in it. as we can see, there will always 3 story in one show by foreign films, which is 3 movie for RM10.

I'm proud that PGLM came to our shores. It's truly refreshing to see such a fantastic Malay musical. I think, Tiara should push PGLM further. They are capable of being the East's Phantom Of The Opera. And in my opinion, this musical should be forever imprinted in a form a dvd or vcd. Yes I understand that the feeling of watching a video wouldn't be the same as being there @ the musical but it give PGLM a venue to spread it's identity further beyond Asia's shores. It'll allow people from other countries to see a Malay production at its best. It'll allow sceptics to see what Asian is capable of. So, there, I strongly urge for PGLM to be cut into a dvd and vcd... I really hope so...
